Incheon Line 2 Goyang Extension Selected for Preliminary Feasibility Study

Incheon City announced that the 'Incheon Urban Railway Line 2 Goyang Extension Project,' a long-awaited project for residents in the northwest region, was finally selected as a preliminary feasibility study target at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee meeting held on the 20th.

This project involves a route with a total length of 19.63 km, connecting Dokjeong Station on Incheon Line 2 through Gimpo to Goyang City (Ilsan) in Gyeonggi Province. The route will include the construction of 12 stations and one train depot.

The Incheon Line 2 Goyang extension, incorporated into the '4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan' in July 2021, began a joint preliminary feasibility study in December of the same year by Incheon City and related local governments including Gimpo and Goyang in Gyeonggi Province. In October last year, it passed as the top priority in the railway sector at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Investment Review Committee.

Once the line opens, the transportation network in the western metropolitan area, including Geomdan in Incheon, Gimpo, and Goyang, will be dramatically improved, and it is expected to enhance accessibility to Seoul by connecting with the Great Train Express (GTX)-A.

Incheon City plans to proceed with the project aiming for construction to start in 2029 and opening in 2035, following the basic plan establishment and detailed design phases, once the project passes the preliminary feasibility study conducted by the Korea Development Institute (KDI).
