The education superintendents from across the country attending the National Council of Provincial and Metropolitan Education Superintendents are taking a commemorative photo.
Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, proposed measures for relief and recovery support for disaster victims as well as the relocation and legal amendment of drug rehabilitation facilities.
On the 20th, at the '91st National Association of Provincial and Metropolitan Superintendents of Education' hosted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, Superintendent Lim emphasized, "Support is needed for relief of disaster victims affected by the sudden heavy rain and for the recovery of the damaged areas," adding, "Let us discuss support measures at the level of the National Association of Provincial and Metropolitan Superintendents of Education or the education offices."
He further added that since a significant number of educational facilities have been damaged due to the heavy rain, it is necessary to secure special disaster relief funds in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education to overcome the disaster.
Regarding the drug rehabilitation facilities, which have recently become problematic due to illegal relocation and operation, he also asserted, "It is necessary to actively respond, including urging legal amendments at the level of the National Association of Provincial and Metropolitan Superintendents of Education, to eliminate safety risks to students near educational facilities."
Before the general meeting that day, Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho and the superintendents of provincial and metropolitan offices of education held a luncheon and a meeting at the southern office of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education to discuss educational issues.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Lim commented on the recent tragic case of an elementary school teacher in Gangnam, Seoul, who took an extreme measure, saying, "An unfortunate incident that should never have happened occurred in the education sector," and added, "Superintendents must unite to ensure that incidents such as an elementary school teacher taking extreme measures on school premises or being assaulted by students do not happen again."
