Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon welcomed the designation of Yongin, Pyeongtaek, and Anseong as the government's specialized semiconductor complexes for materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) and promised to elevate the region into the world's top semiconductor hub.
On the 20th, Governor Kim posted on his social media, stating, "We will become the world's best semiconductor hub that meets the people's expectations," and said, "Today, the government announced the designation of national advanced strategic industry and SoBuJang semiconductor specialized complexes," adding, "I wholeheartedly welcome this."
He further explained, "In Gyeonggi Province, four industrial complexes have been designated in the semiconductor sector of the national advanced strategic industry specialized complexes: 'Yongin Namsa Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster,' 'Yongin Wonsam Semiconductor Cluster,' 'Yongin Giheung Nongseo District,' and 'Pyeongtaek Godeok.' Anseong has been designated as a specialized complex for materials, parts, and equipment, where many semiconductor SoBuJang companies are located."
He especially noted, "The 'integrated linkage plan' involving cooperation among basic local governments within the province was effective," and evaluated, "As a result, the largest metropolitan-scale specialized complex nationwide, covering approximately 17.9 million square meters, was designated. This is a significant achievement for Gyeonggi."
Additionally, he introduced, "This decision strengthens the establishment of the world's largest semiconductor mega cluster encompassing Yongin, Pyeongtaek, and Anseong," and added, "It will enable faster permits and approvals, and government support will be provided for industrial infrastructure development and R&D."
Furthermore, he congratulated, "I congratulate Yongin, Pyeongtaek, and Anseong, all selected as specialized complexes," and expressed, "I sincerely sympathize with the cities and counties that participated in the competition but faced disappointment, especially Icheon and Hwaseong."
Governor Kim emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province will unite its efforts to secure better opportunities in the near future," and stated, "I once again welcome this decision that reaffirms Gyeonggi's status as a global semiconductor industry hub, and we will become the world's best semiconductor hub and a leader in future new industries that meet the expectations of Korea and its people."
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy earlier held meetings of the National Advanced Strategic Industry Committee and the SoBuJang Competitiveness Enhancement Committee on the same day to approve the designation of national advanced strategic industry specialized complexes and SoBuJang specialized complexes, respectively.
In the semiconductor sector of the 'National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complexes,' four complexes were designated: ▲Yongin Namsa Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster (Samsung Electronics), ▲Yongin Wonsam Semiconductor Cluster (SK Hynix), ▲Yongin Giheung Nongseo District (Samsung Electronics), and ▲Pyeongtaek Godeok Internationalization Planning District General Industrial Complex (Samsung Electronics), covering a total area of 16.33 million square meters.
The Anseong Dongsin General Industrial Complex, designated as a 'SoBuJang Specialized Complex' in the semiconductor sector, spans 1.57 million square meters in Dongsin-ri, Bogae-myeon, Anseong City, and is located at the center of the K-semiconductor belt connecting southern Gyeonggi's Pyeongtaek, Yongin, and Icheon.
