At around 4:46 PM on the 20th, a fire broke out in a 1-ton Porter electric vehicle being towed after a traffic accident at the Geumsan Bridge intersection in Chojeon-dong, Jinju-si, Gyeongnam.
According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters, the fire started underneath the truck being towed from the previous accident, and firefighters are extinguishing the fire using a flood tank and smothering covers.
Firefighters are filling a water tank made like a fence around the vehicle to prevent thermal runaway of the electric vehicle's battery.
At the scene, 10 pieces of equipment including fire trucks and 32 firefighters were dispatched, and it is known that there were no occupants in the vehicle at the time of the fire.
A fire official stated, "Due to the nature of electric vehicles where thermal runaway occurs during fires, it will take about 2 to 3 hours to fully extinguish the fire."
