Gwangyang City Focuses on Repairing Heavy Rain Damage to Park Facilities

Hyeonchungtap Park, Saengtae Lake Park, Seonghwang Neighborhood Park, etc.

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that it is making every effort to restore urban park facilities damaged by the recent continuous heavy rains.

During the recent heavy rain period, the city took proactive measures such as completely blocking access to the waterfront deck paths in parks and restricting entry to riverside walking trails.

Despite these efforts, ongoing heavy rains caused damage to some urban park facilities in three locations: Madong Hyeonchungtap Park, Madong Ecological Lake Park, and Seonghwang Neighborhood Park.

The city plans to carry out temporary emergency repairs by removing soil and installing waterproof sheets to prevent slope erosion in the affected areas, and to expedite full restoration using disaster funds and contingency budgets.

Most minor facility damages caused by tree falls have been repaired on-site by the city’s own personnel, and through emergency duty assignments designating staff responsible for each park, the city has monitored the damaged areas and strived for thorough safety management.

Kim Jaewon, Director of Parks, stated, "Considering that these parks are places for citizens’ rest and healing, we will do our best to quickly normalize operations by activating a dedicated restoration team and seek safer park management plans."
