Thinking of ‘Dad,’ a 30-Year Chemical Plant Worker... Trot Prodigy Park Seong-on Joins ‘Safety Song’

KOSHA Unveils 'Son's Wish' for Safe Workplaces

Workplace Family Safety and Health Prayer, Public Participation in Lyric Trot

‘This son's wish is only for your safety and our family's happiness’.

Trot prodigy Park Seong-on gifted a song to his father. It is a heartfelt cry dedicated to all working fathers and mothers in this land.

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) released the safety song video ‘A Son’s Wish’ on the 20th through its official YouTube channel ‘Anjeli’ and the agency’s website.

This year’s safety song was produced in a trot version, featuring singer Park Seong-on, who advanced to the TOP 7 of Mister Trot 2.

The 2023 new safety song was created with the concept of ‘wishing for the safety and health of families working at the workplace.’ During the songwriting process, comments from the ‘National Participation Lyrics Contest’ held via SNS (YouTube and Facebook, etc.) in May, Family Month, were reflected in the lyrics. Many participants expressed their hopes for workplace safety in the lyrics.

The safety song ‘A Son’s Wish’ features a simple melody that is easy to sing along with and a captivating hook. Additionally, trot singer Park Seong-on’s poignant voice harmonizes with the earnest lyrics wishing for family safety, deeply resonating with listeners.

In fact, singer Park Seong-on’s father has been working shift work at a chemical plant in Ulsan for nearly 30 years. Park Seong-on reportedly always prayed in his heart for his father’s safety and health whenever he saw him leaving for work late at night or returning home at dawn. Thus, when producing the safety song recording, he sang while recalling those emotions.

KOSHA is conducting campaigns to spread a culture of safety in industrial sites by collaborating with singers who receive nationwide attention.

In 2020, they produced the dance song ‘SAFE’ with girl group Oh My Girl; in 2021, the trot song ‘Together Safe’ with singer Hong Ji-yoon and the hip-hop song ‘SAFE’ with YouTuber Nepkins; and in 2022, the folk song ‘The World We Wish For’ with national singer Park Chang-geun, releasing them publicly.

These songs are provided through social networking services (SNS) and industrial sites to promote the spread of safety culture.

KOSHA Director Ahn Jong-joo said, “We hope that widely spreading the safety songs will provide an opportunity for both employers and workers to once again check workplace safety,” and added, “We will continue various collaborative campaigns to ensure that safety culture spreads throughout society.”
