"Thank You SK On" Road Named After SK Established in Georgia, USA

'SK Boulevard' in Jackson County Commerce City
Industrial Complex Name Also Changed to 'SK Battery Park (Tentative)'

An 'SK-ro' named after SK Group has been established in the United States.

SK On announced on the 20th that the road name near the SK Battery America (SKBA) site in Commerce, Jackson County, Georgia, USA, has been changed from 'Steve Reynolds Industrial Parkway' to 'SK Boulevard'.

SK On held a plaque ceremony at the SKBA Georgia plant with SKBA officials and key local figures including Clark Hill, Mayor of Commerce. The newly changed road name was already registered with map applications, 911 services, and postal services as of the 1st of this month. For the next year, the old and new road names will be used concurrently.

Along with the road name, the name of the industrial complex where SKBA is located will also change from 'Commerce 85 Industrial Parkway' to the tentative name 'SK Battery Park'. A signboard will be installed at the exit of Highway 85 leading to SKBA in the second half of this year.

This road name change is to express gratitude to SKBA for creating quality jobs and contributing to the local community. SK On achieved early fulfillment of the SKBA hiring commitment of 2,600 employees in Georgia, which was promised at the end of last year. The target employment achievement date was 2024, but it was advanced by two years. Brian Kemp, Governor of Georgia, publicly expressed his thanks, saying, "As Georgia continues unprecedented growth, hardworking citizens are benefiting." SK On has hired a total of 3,000 people so far, exceeding its employment target.

SK On’s parent company, SK Innovation, established the local corporation SKBA in November 2018 to secure a production base in the U.S. market, which leads the global electric vehicle market. Through SKBA, SK On has invested a total of $2.6 billion (approximately 3 trillion KRW) and operates battery plants including Plant 1 (9.8GWh), which has been running since the first quarter of last year, and Plant 2 (11.7GWh), which started early operations at the end of last year. Batteries produced here are installed in the electric version of the American national pickup truck Ford 'F-150 Lightning' and Volkswagen's 'ID.4', among others.

Meanwhile, SK On’s large-scale investment is also contributing to the co-growth with major domestic partners. Over 90% of the equipment installed at the SKBA plant is from domestic companies. Although the factory is built overseas where automakers are located, the actual effect on domestic co-growth is very significant.

An SK On official stated, "The Georgia state government's proactive support policies played a major role in SK On selecting Georgia as the North American battery production base," adding, "We will create jobs that everyone wants to work at and establish ourselves as a global top-tier battery company through coexistence with the local community."
