Ministry of the Interior and Safety to Open Key Data for 30 Countries by Year-End

Through the Public Data Portal (data.go.kr), 30 national key datasets will be opened by the end of the year.

On the 20th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it will hold the integrated kickoff meeting for the 2023 National Key Data Opening Project tomorrow and will officially promote the "2023 National Key Data Opening Project."

The 4th data opening project is characterized by providing public data necessary for private sector service completion in bundled (package) form to increase usability, and opening data containing sensitive information such as personal data in the form of an authenticity verification service.

Representative examples of bundled public data include services such as neighborhood traffic environment services and customized startup support services for small business owners.

First, to be used for neighborhood traffic environment information services, information on traffic accident hotspots (Korea Transportation Safety Authority), train operation information (KORAIL), etc., will be opened as bundles. Traffic accident hotspot information refers to locations where a certain number of traffic accidents have occurred within a specified radius over the past three years by local government. When the data is provided in the form of an open API, it can be combined with other road traffic information in navigation systems to be used as comprehensive traffic information, and it is expected to be used as basic data for traffic environment analysis by combining bundled traffic accident hotspot information, train operation information, and more.

For data to be used in customized startup support services for small business owners, franchise business disclosure information (Fair Trade Commission) and startup support and education data (Small Enterprise and Market Service) will be opened. In particular, the opening of franchise business disclosure data is expected to make comparisons between franchise headquarters much easier and more convenient. Through franchise business disclosure data, it is expected to prevent damages to prospective franchisees caused by false or exaggerated advertisements, and by combining it with bundled startup support data, it will also be possible to utilize it in customized startup support services for small business owners.

Meanwhile, data containing personal information will be opened through an "authenticity verification service," which is an alternative method of providing public data.

Vehicle history information for business use (maintenance information, mandatory insurance subscription status, etc.), selected as a task for realizing the Digital Platform Government, is expected to greatly contribute to the public’s safe use of rental cars and charter buses.

Jung Seon-yong, Director of the Government Innovation Organization Office, stated, "Through this National Key Data Opening Project, data that has had high demand for opening will be released and its utilization is expected to increase," adding, "We will continue to actively open public data to enhance public convenience and take the lead in fostering new businesses through this."
