Jungnang-gu Begins Operation of Bottled Water Refrigerator 'Jungnang Ongdalsaem'

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is helping residents stay healthy and safe during the upcoming heatwave. From July 19 to August 17, the district will operate the outdoor heat relief shelter ‘Jungnang Ongdalsaem’ at 12 locations throughout the area for 30 days.

Operating since 2021, ‘Jungnang Ongdalsaem’ is a bottled water refrigerator set up along outdoor walking paths where anyone can freely drink cool bottled water and beat the heat. During last year’s heatwave, over 800,000 bottles of water were distributed, receiving enthusiastic support from residents.

The installation sites remain the same as last year, located at 12 heavily trafficked spots including park trails and along the Jungnangcheon riverside: ▲Gureungsan (entrance to Cheongnam Park deck trail) ▲Bonghwasan (Children’s Forest Experience Center, Onggi Theme Park, Bongsudae Park) ▲Yongmasan (behind Yongma Senior Welfare Center, Yongma Waterfall Park, Sagajeong Park entrance, Mangwoo History and Culture Park) ▲Jungnangcheon riverside (Gyeomjae Small Library, opposite the Sehwa Public Daycare Center, Jangmi Small Library, Surim Grand Park).

The operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Approximately 350 bottles of water are provided six times a day, totaling about 25,200 bottles free of charge. The district plans to flexibly adjust the supply frequency depending on circumstances.

To protect the environment, the water is provided in recyclable label-free bottles, and dedicated recycling bins for Jungnang Ongdalsaem are installed to maintain a clean environment. In particular, resident volunteers called ‘Saemjigi’ manage the Ongdalsaem and assist users for their convenience.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope the cool Ongdalsaem will help protect residents’ health during outdoor activities in the hot summer. Besides Jungnang Ongdalsaem, we will spare no effort to safeguard residents’ safety by carefully monitoring vulnerable groups such as the elderly during the scorching heat.”

The district has designated the heatwave response period until September 30 and is implementing various projects to help residents combat the heat. First, 15 additional shade shelters have been installed at busy crosswalks, increasing the total to 121 locations.

Additionally, mist-type cooling water systems that lower surrounding temperatures and reduce fine dust are operating at Junghwasugyeong Park and Yongma Waterfall Park.

Other measures include ▲operating 123 heat relief shelters ▲running 7 safety accommodations for the elderly ▲constant monitoring of high-risk groups such as elderly living alone ▲road water cleaning ▲special measures for outdoor workers, all aimed at providing practical, community-based support that residents can feel.
