Sancheong-gun to Raise Taxi Base Fare to 5,600 Won Starting August

Relieving Financial Difficulties in the Taxi Industry

The base fare for taxis in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, will be raised to 5,600 won.

According to Sancheong-gun on the 20th, the Price Countermeasure Committee held a meeting on the afternoon of the 18th at the county office's government meeting room and decided on this matter.

Accordingly, from 4 a.m. on August 1, the taxi base fare will increase from the current 4,700 won to 5,600 won.

Sancheong-gun to Raise Taxi Base Fare to 5,600 Won Starting August Sancheong County Office, Gyeongnam.

This increase is the first in four years since 2019, reflecting rises in transportation costs such as wage increases and inflation rates, as well as the taxi industry's management difficulties including operating deficits in 2021.

In particular, although the Sancheong-gun Price Countermeasure Working Committee held on the 22nd of last month approved a composite surcharge rate of 42% (5,700 won), considering the residents' burden, it was decided to apply a 40% (5,600 won) composite surcharge rate along with a call fee of 1,000 won.

The base fare of 5,600 won applies up to 2 km of taxi travel distance, and a fare of 150 won is charged for every 130 meters beyond 2 km.

Additionally, a fare of 150 won is charged per 31 seconds of unit time, with a 20% surcharge applied for late-night hours (10 p.m. to 4 a.m.) and a 30% surcharge for outside city limits, which are included in the taxi fare calculation.

Earlier, Gyeongnam Province, after deliberation and resolution by the Consumer Policy Committee, raised the taxi base fare from 3,300 won to 4,000 won starting at 4 a.m. on June 10.

The distance fare was also adjusted from 133 meters to 130 meters, the unit time from 34 seconds to 31 seconds, and the late-night surcharge hours set from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., and these changes have been implemented.

A county official stated, “Through this taxi fare increase, we plan to improve the quality of transportation services and help resolve the management difficulties of the taxi industry.”
