First Development of Rear License Plate Automated Traffic Enforcement Equipment
Afro Systems announced on the 19th that it is leading the market by developing unmanned traffic enforcement equipment for rear license plates. Afro Systems is a specialized company in unmanned traffic enforcement equipment established in 2015. It developed a system that enforces vehicles violating speed limits and signals using radar sensors, as well as a system that automatically enforces illegally parked vehicles obstructing traffic flow through camera footage. Registered as an excellent product for public procurement, the company rapidly grew to achieve sales of approximately 40 billion KRW in 2020 and 2021.
After COVID-19, to prevent the rapidly increasing number of motorcycle accidents, Afro Systems developed a system that reads rear license plates on motorcycles without front license plates to enforce traffic violations on the road. This product was designated as an excellent product by the Public Procurement Service at the end of last year. In April of this year, two models for rear enforcement of signal and speed violations and two models for rear speed violation enforcement were registered on the Nara Marketplace comprehensive shopping mall.
Afro Systems installed rear license plate unmanned enforcement equipment in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, Suwon City, and Hwaseong City. The National Police Agency conducted pilot operations and guidance periods and began full-scale enforcement in April. The effectiveness of traffic violation enforcement has been proven. In about 70 days since April, approximately 1,660 motorcycles were caught, averaging 24 per day. For four-wheeled vehicles, the equipment is also useful in detecting sudden acceleration after passing the enforcement device. Accordingly, the expansion of rear traffic enforcement equipment installation is expected to accelerate.
An Afro Systems official stated, "We will devote ourselves to research and development to contribute to establishing a safe road traffic culture and building a pedestrian-centered next-generation intelligent transportation system."
