"Lithuania's 2nd Largest Export: Textile & Fashion"
Regarding the controversy over First Lady Kim Geon-hee's 'luxury shopping scandal,' Rep. Lee Yong of the People Power Party stated that it was a "cultural exploration" and described it as a diplomatic move.
On the 19th, Rep. Lee said on YTN Radio's 'News King Park Ji-hoon' that "Lithuania is a small country with a total population of 2.5 million, but its major industry is textile fashion," adding, "The First Lady is aware of these textile and fashion industries, and it can be seen as part of a cultural exploration."
He continued, "Textiles and fashion rank second in Lithuania's exports," and explained, "Knowing this, it is believed that the First Lady engaged in some form of cultural exploration, so this can also be considered a form of diplomacy."
Regarding Park Young-hoon, Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party's Youth Future Council, who raised suspicions that there were luxury items in the First Lady's eco bag but later corrected himself saying 'it does not seem to be the case,' Rep. Lee said, "It is somewhat regrettable because young politicians should speak the truth and offer constructive criticism to their party," and pointed out, "Using such a politically charged issue in this way is not considered proper politics."
On the calls for the establishment of a special inspector and a second secretariat amid this controversy, he said, "The president's pledge was to slim down the presidential office, so bringing this up again is to re-ignite the issue," adding, "It is inappropriate because it is obvious that the Democratic Party will focus on attacking the president for breaking his own pledge."
