The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 19th that the outstanding balance of derivative-linked securities (DLS) as of the end of the first half of this year stood at 31.7081 trillion KRW, a 2.2% decrease compared to the end of the previous year.
The number of DLS (including DLB) issued in the first half of this year was 948, a 2.8% increase from the previous half, but the issuance amount decreased by 13.9% to 9.3316 trillion KRW.
By issuance type, public offerings accounted for 57.2% and private placements for 42.8% of the total issuance amount. The amount issued through public offerings decreased by 29.2% compared to the previous half, while private placements increased by 20.9%.
By underlying asset type, interest rate-linked DLS accounted for 79.1% of the total issuance amount, or 7.3816 trillion KRW, and credit-linked DLS accounted for 19.8%, or 1.8474 trillion KRW. These two types together accounted for 89.9% of the total issuance amount, or 9.229 trillion KRW.
A total of 21 companies issued DLS, with Hana Securities issuing the most at 2.4546 trillion KRW. Next were Hanwha Investment & Securities with 1.2018 trillion KRW and Shinhan Investment Corp. with 1.023 trillion KRW. The top five securities firms issued DLS worth 5.9927 trillion KRW, accounting for 64.2% of the total issuance amount.
The total redemption amount of DLS in the first half was 10.4423 trillion KRW, a 39.6% increase compared to the previous half (7.4817 trillion KRW). By redemption type, maturity redemptions amounted to 8.8523 trillion KRW, accounting for 84.8% of the total redemption amount, while early redemptions and mid-term redemptions accounted for 1.427 trillion KRW and 163 billion KRW, or 13.7% and 1.5%, respectively.
