Special Lecture on the Principles of Smart Farm Facilities for Students at Dongguk University Education College Affiliated Middle School
Smart Farm Experience Expected to Enhance Students' Emotional Stability and Understanding of Smart Technologies
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 17th that Mayor Lee Pil-hyung personally participated in the 'Smart Farm' education program held at Dongguk University Education College Affiliated Middle School (hereafter Dongdaebujung) as part of smart education to nurture future talents.
'Smart Farm' is a new form of urban agriculture that integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) into vinyl greenhouses and glass greenhouses to remotely manage the optimal growth environment of crops. By applying smart technologies such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), it can establish an ecosystem covering the entire agricultural process from food production to distribution, sales, and consumption.
Dongdaemun-gu is piloting the 'Smart Farm Facility Construction and Education' project by providing a total of 90 million KRW in educational subsidies to three local schools (Dongdaebujung, Kyunghee Girls' Middle School, Hwibong High School) in the first half of this year to help students living in the city increase their understanding of future safe food and the environment and experience future ecological fields.
The education held on the 17th included a 'Special Lecture on the Principles of Smart Farm Facilities' and a hands-on experience of 'Making Hydroponic Succulent Pots' for students of Dongdaebujung. Going forward, education related to the 4th Industrial Revolution using smart farms will continue to be provided for teachers and students.
Ginseng, succulents, kai phila (lettuce), and sweet basil harvested from the smart farm facilities will be shared with teachers, parents, the Beautiful Store, and neighboring communities.
Mayor Lee Pil-hyung of Dongdaemun-gu said, "This experience is expected to positively influence the holistic development of students by enhancing their understanding of eco-friendly technologies and practicing a life of sharing the harvest with neighbors." He added, "We will nurture talents for the 4th Industrial Revolution era by increasing accessibility to future technologies through various programs related to smart technologies, including smart farm education."
