The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the Busan Education Research and Information Institute will hold a "Student Camp Utilizing ABM New Technologies" for 76 elementary, middle, and high school students in the district over four days starting from the 19th, using online platforms.
ABM refers to new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and Metaverse.
This camp aims to establish a foundation for a digital educational environment in line with the direction of the 2022 revised curriculum and to foster students' future competencies such as problem-solving skills using new technologies.
The camp will begin with preliminary lectures from the 19th to the 21st using the AI education platform "B-MOOC" and the text analysis platform "Busan EduBig," both operated by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education. On the 22nd, the camp will be held in person at the Busan Education Research and Information Institute.
There are a total of 26 participating teams: 10 elementary school teams, 6 middle school teams, and 10 high school teams. They will engage in team project activities aligned with the camp themes by division.
The elementary school teams will participate in the Metaverse division with the theme "Decorating the Busan World Expo Site Using Minecraft Code Builder," while the middle school teams will join the Big Data division with the theme "Diagnosing and Predicting Busan's Urban Problems and Proposing Solutions."
The high school teams will conduct project activities in the Artificial Intelligence division under the theme "Creating Image Analysis Using Computer Vision Technology."
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to select outstanding teams by division based on the camp results and award prizes, as well as provide souvenirs to all participants.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "This camp is designed to enhance students' AI and digital competencies," adding, "Through the process of communicating and collaborating with team members, students are expected to naturally develop communication skills and problem-solving abilities."
Since March, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has been operating 12 policy schools and 9 teacher clubs to promote ABM convergence education. These groups are conducting teaching and learning research activities to utilize artificial intelligence, big data, and metaverse in school classes.
