Jo Jae-gu, the mayor of Nam-gu, Daegu, participated in a challenge campaign to actively practice reducing single-use products in daily life and to raise awareness about this issue.
The 'Single-Use Products ZERO Challenge' is an event initiated in February by Minister Han Hwa-jin of the Ministry of Environment. It is an eco-friendly campaign aimed at reducing the use of single-use products and increasing the use of reusable products in daily life. Participants post photos on social networking services (SNS) showing a hand gesture symbolizing 'Single-Use Products Zero,' then nominate two people with hashtags (#) to continue the challenge in a relay format.
Currently, Nam-gu, Daegu, has won the highest award for 16 consecutive times in the 'Comprehensive Resource Circulation Administrative Evaluation' hosted by Daegu City. As a local government leading environmental protection and carbon neutrality, Nam-gu actively conducts promotional campaigns to reduce single-use product usage every year on Environment Day and Resource Circulation Day in cooperation with environmental organizations. In the second half of this year, a tumbler washing machine will be installed within the Nam-gu Office to practice reducing the use of disposable cups, continuing efforts for environmental activities.
Jo Jae-gu, mayor of Nam-gu, Daegu, stated, "I hope this challenge will serve as an opportunity for many citizens to participate in reducing single-use products and become a valuable first step toward environmental protection and achieving carbon neutrality. Nam-gu will do its best to establish a culture of practicing the reduction of single-use products as early as possible."
Mayor Jo participated in the challenge upon the nomination of Park Young-gi, president of the Daegu Sports Council, and nominated Lee Chung-do, chairman of the Daegu Nam-gu Council, and Kim Oh-sung, chairman of the Daegu Jung-gu Council, as the next participants.
