Obtained Student Pilot License Early This Year... New Hobby
Announces Fight Challenge with Musk Following Thread Launch
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has revealed a new hobby that is drawing attention. It was recently disclosed that he obtained a student pilot license earlier this year.
On the 16th (local time), economic media Business Insider reported, citing data from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), that "fighting and running Meta alone do not seem to keep Zuckerberg busy enough," and that he has acquired a pilot license.
This makes Zuckerberg the latest Silicon Valley executive to be able to sit in the cockpit, following Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla; Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI; and Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap.
Originally, piloting was Elon Musk's most famous hobby. As the CEO of the space exploration company SpaceX, he is known to own several private jets, including four jets.
However, in 2008, Musk stated, "I have to work when I fly, and I have too many thoughts in my head to pay the necessary attention to flying," adding, "Sometimes I zone out, which is a really bad habit for a pilot," and revealed that he stopped piloting himself.
Zuckerberg's recent acquisition of a pilot license has attracted more interest as he has decided to engage in a fighting match with Musk over the launch of 'Threads.'
Their confrontation began when a Twitter user asked Musk, "Will Threads become a rival to Twitter?" which sparked the prospect of a mixed martial arts (MMA) real fight between them.
A black belt in jiu-jitsu, Zuckerberg has shared videos of himself training in jiu-jitsu and with MMA fighters, and it is reported that Musk is also learning jiu-jitsu.
On the 10th, Musk tweeted, calling Zuckerberg "Zuck" a "cuck" (a U.S. slang term for a man lacking masculinity) and immaturely challenged him to a literal penis length contest.
Meanwhile, separate from their fighting match, Threads is continuing its smooth progress as a competitor to Twitter. It surpassed 100 million users within five days of its launch and is expected to add features such as direct messaging (DM) soon.
Meta's stock price showed an upward trend, starting at $287.65 on the 5th, the day Threads was launched, and closing at $310.62 on the 17th. Its market capitalization reached $796 billion (approximately 1,010 trillion KRW).
