'Perfect Weather' Controversy Psy Donates 100 Million Won for Flood Recovery Fund

"Will Strive Harder in Disaster Relief Sharing Activities"
Large Donations Made During Past Major and Minor Disasters

Amid nationwide heavy rain damage, singer Psy, who sparked controversy after posting a review following his 'Heumbbeok Show' performance, has generously donated a large sum for flood recovery. Psy has actively donated whenever disaster situations have occurred in Korea.

The Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced on the 17th that Psy donated 100 million won for flood recovery. Through Hope Bridge, Psy said, "I want to express my deepest condolences to everyone affected by the recent heavy rain," adding, "I donated with the hope that it will help even a little so that everyone can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."

With this donation, Psy became a member of Hope Bridge's high-value individual donor club, the 'Honors Club.' Psy expressed his commitment, saying, "I will continue to devote more effort to sharing activities for neighbors affected by disasters."

Kim Jeong-hee, Secretary General of Hope Bridge, said, "We are grateful to Psy for joining in donations for neighbors affected by disasters," and added, "We will do our best to help the disaster victims return to their daily lives as soon as possible."

Earlier, on the 15th, Psy held his summer concert 'Heumbbeok Show' at Jinnam Sports Complex in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do. The Heumbbeok Show is a concert concept where water jets are sprayed in the venue for enjoyment.

After the Heumbbeok Show ended, Psy posted a review and a thank-you message on the 16th, saying, "It was Psy, a singer from Korea, in Yeosu where the audience, staff, guests, and even the weather were all perfect."

However, this phrase sparked controversy. Critics pointed out that saying "the weather was perfect" was inappropriate amid the ongoing heavy rain damage. Additionally, questions were raised about the appropriateness of holding a concert with about 30,000 attendees during a heavy rain warning.

On the other hand, some argued, "You can't cancel a scheduled event just because of the weather," and "Should water parks also close when heavy rain falls?"

As the controversy grew, Psy's side deleted the review post.

Meanwhile, Psy has actively engaged in donation activities for neighbors affected by disasters whenever large or small disasters have occurred in the past. He donated 100 million won each for recovery efforts during the 2017 Pohang earthquake and the 2019 Gangwon wildfire incidents.
