This event was planned to promote the diverse charms of K-Culture in the United States and to increase interest in Korean tourism in celebration of the '70th Anniversary of the Korea-US Alliance' and the '2023-2024 Visit Korea Year.'
The Korea Tourism Organization will hold 'Korea Week' targeting local consumers in the US in collaboration with Rockefeller Center. The New York Korean Cultural Center, domestic companies such as Jeong Kwan Jang and BBQ, local governments, and public institutions will operate various Korean cultural experience programs including K-food, fashion, beauty, and wellness.
At the 'K-Culture Popup' promoting the Visit Korea Year, promotion of 100 selected K-Culture tourism events and various Korean tourism contents such as Cheongwadae, which has emerged as a new landmark of Korean tourism, will take place. In Times Square, the K-pop dance competition 'Dance to Korea' will be held. Random play dance events will also be conducted throughout Manhattan together with local New York K-pop fan clubs.
On the 20th, a Korea-US travel industry business consultation meeting, Korean tourism briefing session, and dinner event will be held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel.
About 200 key figures from the US travel industry will be invited to the event. Thirty-four organizations including major domestic travel agencies, airlines, OTAs (online travel agencies), local governments, and public institutions will participate. Business consultations will be conducted in a 1:1 format through prior reservations. This event is expected to serve as a platform for restoring networks between industries disrupted by COVID-19 and exchanging ideas to develop new inbound travel products.
The Korean tourism briefing session will be themed around K-food, which has recently gained great popularity among New Yorkers. A Korean food storytelling program by Chef Kim Dae-ik, the head chef of a Michelin-selected Korean restaurant in New York, is prepared. A K-pop dance performance by the world-renowned choreography creative group '1MILLION' will also follow.
At the dinner, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance, Korean War veterans and their descendants, as well as the Campagna couple who rescued Korean tourists during last winter’s heavy snowfall, will be specially invited.
Kim Jang-sil, President of the Korea Tourism Organization, said, "This event goes beyond promoting Korean tourism; it is a testament to the long-standing friendship of 70 years of the Korea-US alliance and aims to further strengthen cultural exchange and cooperation. We hope that American consumers will experience K-Culture in diverse ways and include Korea on their travel bucket lists." He added, "As the global status and interest in K-Culture have risen, the organization will do its best to convert this into actual inbound tourism demand."
