Eunpyeong-gu Supports Home Repairs for Vulnerable Households

Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will carry out the second half of 2023’s “Hope Home Repair” project to support home repairs for low-income residents living in poor housing conditions.

This project provides home repair costs to low-income households facing deteriorated or flood-damaged housing conditions but are hesitant to undertake repairs due to financial burdens. The project is implemented in two phases, first and second half of the year.

The support amount for this second half is up to 2.5 million KRW per household. This is an increase of 700,000 KRW from the 1.8 million KRW provided in the first half, and the number of supported households has also increased.

Eligible applicants are residents with an income below 60% of the median standard income for this year. Rental households can also apply, and for owner-occupied homes, applicants must reside in the home. Priority is given to semi-underground homes and emergency households recommended by the district.

Applicants can visit their local community center by the 31st to apply. After screening in early August, final beneficiary households will be selected and home repairs will be supported sequentially.

Only houses defined under the Housing Act are eligible for support; quasi-housing such as goshiwon (small dormitory-style rooms) or unauthorized buildings are excluded. Households currently receiving housing benefits (repair and maintenance benefits) or those who have received Hope Home Repair support within the past three years are excluded from this year’s program. Duplicate applications for the Korea Energy Foundation’s “2023 Energy Efficiency Improvement Project” support in the first half or second half are also not allowed.

A total of 18 repair items can be covered by the support, including wallpapering, flooring, insulation, window replacement, waterproofing, ceiling repair, kitchen sink, mold removal, boiler, and installation of safety facilities such as flood barriers and flood alarms.

Two new items added this year are safety facilities (fire, flood, gas leak alarms, water barriers, fire extinguishers, etc.) and ventilation fans.

Last year, 67 households in Eunpyeong-gu received home repair support, and the supported households expressed high satisfaction with the improvement of their living environment.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “A comfortable living environment is fundamental to ensuring a healthy life. We will do our best to support home repairs so that no residents suffer from heatwaves, humidity, or other difficulties.”
