Found Dead at Home in Paris
Jane Birkin, a British-born French singer and actress, has passed away at the age of 76.
On the 16th (local time), French broadcaster BFMTV and others reported that Birkin was found dead at her home in Paris by her caregiver.
Born in London, England, Birkin was primarily active in France and was a singer, actress, and model who dominated the 1960s to 1980s.
She was well known for her partnership with famous French singer Serge Gainsbourg. Birkin and Gainsbourg, who passed away in 1991, were lovers and musical partners for over a decade from the late 1960s, creating several classic songs including "Yesterday Yes a Day."
As an actress, she demonstrated outstanding talent, appearing in works by renowned directors such as Jacques Rivette and Jean-Luc Godard. In 1985, she received critical acclaim and was considered a strong contender for the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her role in "Dust."
With her exceptional fashion sense, she was also called an icon of "French chic." The luxury brand Herm?s named its handbag the "Birkin bag" after her. Her two daughters, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon, are also active as singers, actresses, and models.
