Ukraine’s Boryspil International Airport is located about 29 km southeast of downtown Kyiv and is the largest airport in Ukraine, handling 62% of the country’s passenger traffic and 85% of its cargo traffic. The Boryspil International Airport Corporation is currently conducting a feasibility study to modernize the runway and construct a new cargo terminal after the war.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to support the airport expansion project based on its accumulated technical capabilities from numerous domestic and international airport construction projects such as Incheon International Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, and Peru Chinchero Airport, as well as its proven track record in leading post-war national reconstruction projects.

Through this agreement, Hyundai Engineering & Construction aims to actively support the prompt normalization of Kyiv Boryspil International Airport, a key transportation hub in Ukraine, thereby laying the foundation to accelerate Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts. Furthermore, it plans to expand cooperation to high-speed rail and national infrastructure and broaden the base for energy infrastructure projects.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction has signed a Korea-US energy partnership with the American nuclear power company Holtec International and will jointly enter the SMR construction project for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure reconstruction. Through SMR deployment, the role of K-Construction is expected to grow in restoring Ukraine’s power system and developing a carbon-neutral energy industry.

Meanwhile, at the business meeting held alongside the signing ceremony, representatives from the Overseas Construction Association, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Samsung C&T, Hyundai Rotem, Export-Import Bank of Korea, Korea Land & Housing Corporation, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Naver, and other leading companies and institutions related to Ukraine reconstruction gathered to discuss future policy support and cooperation plans.

At the recent Korea-Poland summit, a cooperation channel was established through the launch of a deputy minister-level consultative body between the two countries to jointly discover and promote Ukraine reconstruction projects. With the completion of a public-private partnership system among South Korea, Poland, and Ukraine, a comprehensive support framework for private-led reconstruction projects has been established.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to prepare a response system for post-war projects by creating a platform for diverse and rapid information sharing and strengthening practical cooperation based on the network centered on the Korea-Poland-Ukraine Construction Association.

President Yoon Young-joon stated, “To ensure the swift recovery of Ukraine after the war, Hyundai Engineering & Construction is reviewing opportunities to participate in all fields where it can leverage Korea’s reconstruction expertise. We will actively cooperate in various ways for Ukraine’s development, not only in transportation infrastructure such as airports and railways but also in energy infrastructure, to recreate the Miracle on the Han River.”
