Soil and Rocks Pour In, Vehicles Flooded... Continuous Heavy Rain Damage in Gyeongnam

As heavy rain damage continues nationwide, various damages have occurred in Gyeongnam, where a heavy rain warning was issued.


According to Gyeongnam Province and the Fire Headquarters, an average of 96.5mm of heavy rain fell from midnight on the 15th to 7 p.m. on the 16th.


Among them, Namhae recorded the highest rainfall with 207.2mm, followed by Tongyeong with 174.7mm, Geoje 154.6mm, Changwon 135.2mm, Yangsan 132mm, Gimhae 122.3mm, and Hamyang 108mm, with over 100mm of rain falling in various places.


A landslide warning was issued for Namhae, and advisories were issued for Changwon, Tongyeong, Sacheon, Miryang, Geoje, Yangsan, Goseong, Hadong, Sancheong, and Geochang.


So far, no casualties have occurred, but accidents such as fallen trees and vehicles submerged in water have continued.

On the 14th, a stone retaining wall of a house in Hamyang-gun collapsed, prompting residents including occupants to evacuate, and landslide debris poured onto the road near the entrance of Gapo New Port on Machang Bridge in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon City, causing long-term traffic congestion.


On the 15th, rockfall damage and soil runoff occurred in Jinhae-gu, Changwon City, and a vehicle was submerged in water in Jindong-myeon, Masanhappo-gu.


In Odong-dong, Masanhappo-gu, building finishing materials were blown off by strong winds, and in Jangseungpo-dong, Geoje City, a cabinet was overturned by strong winds.


On the Hanbat floodplain road in Sancheong-eup, Sancheong-gun, one vehicle was flooded, and a foreign driver in his 30s was rescued.

On the 16th, water entered a house in Ha-i-myeon, Goseong-gun, and 3 tons of water were pumped out.


Flooding and drainage work were carried out at a junkyard in Hamyang-eup, Hamyang-gun, a semi-basement house in Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, a motel basement in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan City, and a gas station in Idong, Gimhae City.


In Gaya-eup, Haman-gun, and Masanhappo-gu, Changwon City, vehicles trapped in rising water were towed and drivers were rescued.

In Goseong-eup, Goseong-gun, a retaining wall beside the road collapsed, and in Jangmok-myeon, Geoje City, soil covered the road.


In Sicheon-myeon, Sancheong-gun, and Macheon-myeon, Hamyang-gun, roadside trees fell, and firefighters began removal operations.


There were countless cases of roadside trees fallen by strong winds over three days blocking lanes and more.


As of 7 p.m. on the 16th, fire department activities related to heavy rain damage totaled 92 cases, with major damage including 17 cases of house flooding, 10 cases of soil and rockfall damage, 36 cases of road obstruction, 2 cases of signboard detachment, and 17 other cases.
