Andong Mayor Kwon Ki-chang Visits Flood Damage Site "Committed to Swift Recovery"

On the 16th, Andong Mayor Kwon Ki-chang inspected the sites affected by heavy rain in Namseon, Namhu, Pungcheon, Bukhu, and Nokjeon-myeon, and pledged to swiftly restore the damages.

On the same day, Andong City dispatched about 400 employees from the city hall and eup/myeon/dong offices to the affected areas to conduct inspection activities focusing on disaster-prone regions in preparation for additional rainfall.

Andong Mayor Kwon Ki-chang is visiting and inspecting the flood damage site on the 16th.

Based on the inspection results, Mayor Kwon held a disaster safety countermeasure meeting at 4 p.m. to discuss pre-evacuation guidance to prevent casualties and additional review of restricted access zones.

By 4 p.m. on the 16th, Andong City had received reports of 63 damage cases and commenced emergency restoration work. Currently, access is restricted to 28 locations including riverside parking lots and village roads.

So far, 112 people from 71 households have evacuated to senior centers and other safe locations. The city has established an SNS group chat where about 300 employees from the city hall and eup/myeon/dong offices share real-time weather updates, damage reports, processing status, and results to ensure a prompt response.

From the 14th to 8 a.m. on the 16th, Andong City recorded a cumulative rainfall of 124mm, and an additional 100 to 250mm of rain is forecasted in the Gyeongbuk region from the 16th to the 18th.

As of 3 p.m. on the 16th, the water level of Andong Dam is 155m (78%), and Imha Dam is 154m (60%). According to the flood control discharge plan, the discharge from Andong Dam was adjusted to a maximum of 500㎥/sec and Imha Dam to 300㎥/sec as of 2 p.m. on the 16th.

Although the dam discharge volume has been reduced, the city plans to prepare for damage prevention along downstream riversides while the heavy rain warning remains in effect due to the forecasted additional rainfall.

Mayor Kwon Ki-chang of Andong said, “Following the monitoring of disaster-prone areas, we will carry out reinforcement work to thoroughly prepare for the expected additional rainfall, and in case of damage, we will do our utmost to promptly conduct emergency restoration to prevent secondary damage such as casualties.”
