Walls Collapse and Roads Flooded in Succession... No Casualties Reported
Landslide Concerns Prompt Evacuation of Residents... Flood Warnings Issued for Parts of Yeongsangang and Seomjingang Rivers
Heavy monsoon rains exceeding 300mm have been pouring over the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions since the 13th, causing continuous damage such as flooded roads and collapsed walls.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City, Jeonnam Province, and the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 16th, a heavy rain warning is currently in effect across all areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam. As of 10 a.m. that day, rainfall over two days measured 244.5mm in Haenam, 157.5mm in Gurye, 136.2mm in Jangheung, 127mm in Yeosu, 118.3mm in Gangjin, 118mm in Jindo, 112mm in Boseong, 108mm in Gokseong, and 77.5mm in Nam-gu, Gwangju.

Since the 13th, rainfall totals have reached 307mm at Seongsamjae (Gurye), 247mm at Ttangkkeut (Haenam), 223mm in Jangseong, 198.5mm at Yeomsan (Yeonggwang), and 193mm at Haeje (Muan).
Flood advisories remain in effect at Jangnokgyo Bridge in Gwangju Metropolitan City and Gurye Bridge in Gurye County, while a flood warning continues at Geumgokgyo Bridge in Gokseong.
Due to the weakened ground from continuous rainfall, landslide advisories have been issued for Gurye, Gwangyang, Boseong, Yeonggwang, Suncheon, Hwasun, Haenam, and Gangjin, with a landslide warning in Gokseong.
Although there have been no casualties so far, damage from the rain continues, including collapsed walls, soil erosion, and road closures.
On the afternoon of the previous day, a retaining wall of a house in Wolsan-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju collapsed. Since the house was unoccupied, no casualties occurred, but soil and debris spilled into an adjacent vacant lot, prompting safety measures.
In Jukgyo-dong, Mokpo City, Jeonnam, a retaining wall behind a house collapsed, causing a woman inside to experience symptoms such as vomiting and be transported to a hospital, while other family members evacuated to temporary shelters.
Additionally, in Jinsang-myeon, Gwangyang City, a report was received of a person falling into a valley. The nearby mountain lodge owner conducted a self-rescue, and no casualties were reported.
In a small stream in Naju City, a revetment protecting the embankment was washed away, leading to partial road closures. Due to landslide concerns, residents in vulnerable areas such as Buk-gu in Gwangju, Gokseong, Gurye, and Gwangyang evacuated.
Strong rain of 30 to 60mm per hour is expected in parts of Gwangju and Jeonnam until the afternoon, with a forecast of 50 to 150mm and up to 200mm of rain by the 17th.
