LGU+ Accelerates ESG Management with Upcycled Goods Production

LG Uplus announced on the 16th that it will hold the ‘U+ Safe Roaming True Environment Event,’ giving away ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goods such as name tags and mini bags in celebration of the summer vacation season.

This event was conducted as part of a project to practice ESG at offline stores. The name tags and mini bags produced as goods were made using banners and awnings discarded at the stores. Through this, LG Uplus explained that it reduced carbon emissions by about 547kg, which is the amount of carbon absorbed by 53 pine trees over 30 years in one year.

First, LG Uplus will gift name tags on a first-come, first-served basis to all its mobile customers visiting Incheon Airport so that as many customers as possible can participate in ESG activities. The name tags attached to carriers and backpacks help prevent loss and can also be used as fashion items.

Additionally, customers who subscribe to ‘U+ Safe Roaming Zero Premium’ and complete an eco-friendly travel practice checklist on the event page will receive a mini bag. U+ Safe Roaming Zero Premium (13,200 KRW per day, including VAT) is a roaming plan that allows unlimited use of data, voice calls, and tethering, available for about 30,000 KRW for 3 nights and 4 days.

The U+ Safe Roaming True Environment Event, designed to inform that anyone can easily participate in eco-friendly activities even while traveling, will run from the 17th to August 7th. Both goods can be picked up from the Uplus Roaming Center on the 3rd floor of Incheon Airport starting from the 24th.

To encourage the use of upcycled products, a ‘True Use Certification Event’ will also be held for customers who receive the mini bag. By taking photos of themselves using the mini bag at their travel destination and posting them on ‘Instagram’ with the required hashtags by August 21st, participants will be entered into a draw to win prizes including a Giant SCR road bike (1 winner), Apple iPad 10th generation (3 winners), LG ThinQ Mini (3 winners), Lush Dirty Body Spray (10 winners), and Dr. Althea Vegan Mist Serum (10 winners).

Going forward, LG Uplus plans to minimize carbon emissions by creating goods such as phone cases using waste materials generated during construction as part of its store ESG project, and to continue eco-friendly activities through customer participation campaigns utilizing these goods.

Jang Jun-young, Head of IMC at LG Uplus (Executive Director), said, “With the peak vacation season underway, we prepared this event to provide meaningful travel goods to customers using the U+ Safe Roaming plan and to promote participation in eco-friendly activities even while traveling. We will continue to discover store ESG activities, practice them together with customers, and create various social values.”
