Gangnam-gu Expands Installation of Smart Security Lights Integrated with the Ansim-i App
529 Smart Security Lights Installed over a 0.79㎢ Area of Residential Backstreets near Seolleung Station and Hanti Station in Daechi 4-dong
Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) completed the installation of 529 smart security lights in a 0.79㎢ area of residential backstreets near Seolleung Station and Hanti Station in Daechi 4-dong on the 22nd of last month.
The district has been expanding the installation of smart security lights in densely populated residential areas, starting with 510 smart security lights installed in late December last year in Nonhyeon 1-dong (covering the area from Bongeunsa-ro 1-gil to Hakdong-ro 18-gil, spanning 0.71㎢).
Similar to Nonhyeon 1-dong, Daechi 4-dong features narrow alleys densely packed with houses and has a high proportion of single female households, with many residents expressing concerns about safety when returning home at night.
For this project, the district invested 427.5 million KRW from its budget, starting construction in March and replacing 529 security lights with smart security lights.
The smart security lights are equipped with IoT signal devices based on near-field communication networks and are linked to Seoul’s ‘Ansim-i App.’ When the Ansim-i App is activated and the smartphone is shaken, users can immediately report emergencies and location information to the control center. Upon receiving a report, monitoring staff at the control center promptly call the reporter to verify the situation; if there is no response, the police are notified and nearby CCTV footage is checked to assess the reporter’s condition.
The smart security lights activate instantly when an emergency is reported via the Ansim-i App, flashing to alert nearby pedestrians and responding police officers of the crisis.
Additionally, if a malfunction occurs, the system immediately sends a text message detailing the issue, allowing for proactive maintenance of the security lights.
The district is also proceeding with a smart security light replacement project in the densely populated residential area of Yeoksam 1-dong. With a city subsidy of 200 million KRW, construction began on the 7th of this month and is scheduled for completion in September.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We are supporting the safe return home of our residents by installing smart security lights that effectively alert dangerous situations in narrow and dark alleys. Moving forward, we will actively introduce smart technologies such as expanding CCTV coverage and integrating AI technology to protect the safety of our citizens.”
