Earlier, on the 9th at around 12:49 p.m., about 300 tons of rock collapsed on the same slope.
Despite the large-scale landslides, no casualties were reported.
Since 10 a.m. on the 7th, when the second rockfall occurred, two-way traffic in this section has been completely restricted.
Judging that the risk of additional landslides is high, the county designated and announced a detour route and deployed personnel at the two-way entry points to prohibit vehicle passage.
Rockfalls have been continuously occurring in this section since the 6th.
After inspecting the site on the 11th, the county planned to resume traffic following safety inspections and the installation of safety structures. However, with the recurrence of a large-scale landslide, it is expected that reopening the road will be difficult for a considerable period.
Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Province, stated regarding this landslide, "The province immediately provided Jeongseon-gun with an emergency restoration fund of 1 billion KRW and will prepare fundamental measures such as constructing a detour road in the future."
