30th win in a single event... Record for most wins in history... District Mayor Lee Soon-hee congratulates the valuable achievement overcoming adversity
Kim Ja-in, the climbing queen and ambassador of Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee), won the gold medal in the women's lead final at the 9th round of the 2023 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup held in Chamonix, France, on the 10th Korean time.
In response, Mayor Lee Soon-hee sent a congratulatory message.
On that day, Kim Ja-in recorded 43+ in her main event, lead, and reached the top. This marks her 30th win in a single climbing event. This record is the first of its kind among both men and women.
Earlier, despite sustaining an injury to her ring finger during the national team selection competition held in April, Kim Ja-in showed fighting spirit and secured 3rd place in the combined event, ultimately being selected for the national team. Even after taking a break following the birth of her daughter Oh Gyu-a in 2021, she continuously worked hard with the determination to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, and her efforts have borne fruit.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said in a congratulatory message sent on the 10th, “Kim Ja-in has once again demonstrated the status of South Korea as a powerhouse in sport climbing to the world,” and added, “I am proud of this valuable achievement accomplished by overcoming adversity.” She also said, “We send our wholehearted applause for the outstanding performance shown by Kim Ja-in and will support her together with the residents of Gangbuk-gu.”
Kim Ja-in was appointed as the ambassador of Gangbuk-gu in March. The character ‘In’ in Kim Ja-in’s name was taken from Insubong, a peak of Bukhansan located in Gangbuk-gu, and she has a connection with Gangbuk-gu as she trained at an indoor climbing gym in Beondong during her early 20s, the beginning of her prime. Currently, she also operates the Kim Ja-in Climbing Center near Suyu Station.

Meanwhile, having succeeded in winning a medal at the Chamonix World Cup, Kim Ja-in will challenge for another medal at the 10th round lead World Cup held in Brian?on, France, on the 14th Korean time.
