Heavy rain fell in the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, causing damage such as trees breaking and rocks falling onto roads.
According to the Gangwon Provincial Fire Agency, around 3:59 p.m. on the 13th, a tree broke in Okdong-ri, Hoengseong-eup, Hoengseong-gun, and the fire authorities removed it.
On the same day, around 3:22 p.m., a rockfall accident occurred in Hantan-ri, Mitan-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, and the fire authorities took safety measures. A total of six reports of rain damage were received that day. There were no casualties requiring hospital transfer or rescue.
As rain damage was anticipated, the province activated Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Level 1 around noon that day and strengthened monitoring of disaster-prone areas in preparation.
Currently, in Jeongseon-gun, access is restricted to 61 national park trails including Seoraksan, Odaesan, Chiaksan, and Taebaeksan, as well as the No. 3 line and riverside parking lots in Hoengseong and Hongcheon.
The accumulated rainfall in the province on that day was 68.5 mm in Nami Island, 55 mm in Palbong, Hongcheon, 42.5 mm in Namsan, Chuncheon, 32 mm in Myeonon, Pyeongchang, 30.5 mm in Wonju, 22 mm in Sanae, Hwacheon, 21 mm in Jinbu, Pyeongchang, and 16.5 mm in Naemyeon, Hongcheon.
The Gangwon Regional Meteorological Office forecasted heavy rain from that day through the day after tomorrow (the 15th) due to a low-pressure system and a stationary front. Expected rainfall by the day after tomorrow is 100 to 250 mm (over 300 mm in some areas) in inland and mountainous regions, and 50 to 150 mm along the East Coast.
The Meteorological Office advised, "Because rain falling in the upper reaches of valleys and rivers can cause sudden flooding downstream, camping should be avoided, and special caution is needed regarding flooding in low-lying areas, river overflows, and rapid currents."
