'Heavy Rain Warning' Causes Flooding on Roads and Homes in Incheon

On the 13th, heavy rain warnings were issued in Incheon, where damage such as flooding of roads and houses occurred consecutively.


According to Incheon City and the Incheon Fire Headquarters, a total of 11 reports of heavy rain damage were received by 119 from midnight to 4 p.m. that day.

At around 12:10 p.m. that day, the road at the Deokgyo-dong intersection in Jung-gu, Incheon was flooded with rainwater, and firefighters carried out drainage work. Also, at around 10:15 a.m., rainwater accumulated on the roads in Namchon-dong, Namdong-gu, and in the underground passage "Tokki-gul" in Jakjeon-dong, Gyeyang-gu, restricting vehicle traffic.


In Yonghyeon-dong, Michuhol-gu, a manhole cover was opened, and firefighters took safety measures, while trees fell on roads in Namchon-dong, Namdong-gu, and Gyeongseo-dong, Seo-gu.


At around 11 a.m., the rooftop of a villa in Juan-dong, Michuhol-gu was flooded, and reports of apartment drainage backflow or bathroom flooding were also received by 119.


In the afternoon, a vacant house in Hakik-dong, Michuhol-gu collapsed, and the wall of an officetel in nearby Sungui-dong also collapsed.


A fire department official said, "There were no casualties due to today's heavy rain."


Earlier, at 10:36 a.m., a power outage occurred on the section from Incheon Gyeyang Station to Seoul Station on the Airport Railroad, causing the operation of five trains to be suspended for about five minutes. The Airport Railroad is investigating the cause of the accident further, as it is believed that lightning caused a disruption in power supply.


Access to Gulpo Stream, Galsan Stream, and Cheongcheon Stream was restricted from 5 p.m. the previous day, and access to seven other rivers including Seunggi Stream was also blocked that morning.


Incheon City also restricted access to Eulwang-ri, Wangsang, Hanagae, and Silmi Beaches in Jung-gu, as well as the coastal walkway in Manseok-dong, Dong-gu, in preparation for potential casualties.


Meanwhile, a heavy rain warning was issued in Incheon starting at 10 a.m. that day.
