‘Super App’ Strategy Covering Communication, Purchase, and Viewing
Hive's fandom platform Weverse has surpassed 100 million cumulative downloads. This figure combines downloads from both Weverse and Weverse Shop. It is the first time that a fandom platform's downloads have exceeded 100 million, both domestically and internationally. On the 13th, Weverse announced, "Along with the increase in downloads, the monthly active users (MAU) have also exceeded 9.8 million, approaching the 10 million mark." Since Weverse launched its service in June 2019, it means an average of 66,979 downloads per day.
‘Super Platform’ Capable of Community, Content, and Commerce Services
Weverse's growth into the world's number one fandom platform in just four years is attributed to its super platform strategy that advanced three core functions: community, content, and commerce, fulfilling fans' needs. From the early stages, it provided real-time communication features with artists. It has achieved nearly 1.3 billion views in online and offline concert streaming services.
To enable fans to easily purchase official products such as artists' albums and merch, shopping features were also integrated. The service continues to evolve. In July last year, Weverse integrated Naver V Live to introduce the ‘Weverse Live’ feature, enabling real-time video communication with artists. In May, it launched ‘Weverse DM,’ a private chat service between artists and fans. Additionally, the ‘Fan Letter’ feature was introduced, allowing fans to send messages decorated with analog handwriting emotions directly to artists, adding fun to communication.
Translation in 15 Languages and Concert Streaming Accessible Worldwide... Providing Customized Global Fandom Services
Expanding global artists and fandoms is also cited as a key reason for reaching 100 million downloads. Weverse has embraced not only Korean artists with global fandoms such as BTS and BLACKPINK but also international stars like Jeremy Zucker, New Hope Club, Yurina Hirate, AKB48, and Imase. It has gathered diverse artists and fandoms without regional boundaries.
The stature of Weverse is also evident in numbers. The number of countries and major regions where members belong reaches 245. Real-time translation services are provided in 15 languages, including English, Japanese, and Spanish. Overseas fans can enjoy artists' performances in real time through concert streaming services, regardless of where the concerts are held worldwide. Furthermore, to enhance the convenience of global fans purchasing merch, Weverse has established logistics hubs in the United States and Japan and built a global shipping system.
Choi Jun-won, CEO of Weverse Company, said, “The reason Weverse was able to surpass 100 million downloads is because we have focused our technological capabilities on solving fans' needs with the goal of innovating fandom life.” He added, “Going forward, to accommodate the growing global user base, we plan to solidify our position as the global No.1 fandom platform by introducing new services that allow users not only to communicate with artists but also to enjoy the Weverse platform itself.”
