Achieved fundraising of 2.2724 billion KRW, an increase of 149.4 million KRW compared to last year
Accomplished thanks to continued acts of kindness despite difficulties such as economic downturn
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) was selected as an ‘Excellent Autonomous District’ for the 2023 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign and received a commendation from the Seoul Community Chest of Korea ‘Seoul Fruit of Love’ on July 12.
The ‘Warm Winter Campaign’ is a fundraising project conducted every year from November to February for three months by Seoul Fruit of Love, Seoul City, and 25 autonomous districts to help low-income residents spend a warm winter. The Excellent Autonomous District award is given to only five of the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul based on total fundraising amount and year-over-year fundraising growth rate.
The district raised 2.2724 billion KRW (1.14176 billion KRW in cash donations and 1.13064 billion KRW in in-kind donations) from November 15 last year to February 14 this year, far exceeding the target amount of 1.8 billion KRW.
This amount represents about a 7% increase compared to 2.123 billion KRW the previous year, thanks to the diverse and warm support from businesses, foundations, various resident organizations, religious groups, industry associations, individual donors, and even the piggy banks of young children.
The district uses the collected donations to support living expenses and medical costs for low-income families and households in crisis within welfare blind spots.
Additionally, in collaboration with the local community security council, the district is implementing various welfare projects such as the child wish support project ‘Somang Baedalbu’ (Wish Delivery), the ‘Healthy Beverage Support Project’ to prevent solitary deaths, and the ‘Birthday Celebration Project’.
District Mayor Park Junhee said, “Even in these difficult times, thanks to many people who have continuously extended their warm hands, Gwanak-gu was able to be selected as an Excellent Autonomous District. We will do our best to ensure that the warm hearts of donors are meaningfully delivered to residents in need so that Gwanak can become a ‘Happy Gwanak through Sharing.’”
