"To Avoid Becoming a Controversy in the General Election"

As the children of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk announced their intention to withdraw lawsuits or return their degrees, former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok predicted that Cho would run in next year's general election.

On the 12th, Lee posted on his Facebook, "I think he will actually go ahead and run in the general election," adding, "Perhaps as the litigation drags on, it coincidentally aligns with the election timing to avoid the trial results becoming a point of controversy."

He also said, "If it is difficult for someone from Busan to run in his hometown Busan, and also difficult to run in Honam, a stronghold of the Democratic Party, he will have to find justification to run in the Seoul metropolitan area."

He continued, "Other than Gangnam in Seoul, that constituency will probably be the district with the highest chance of winning for a People Power Party candidate," and added, "If the Democratic Party nominates former Minister Cho, there will be a judgment against him, and if he runs as an independent, it will be a three-way race, causing a split in votes." He then added, "Surely it won't be Gwanak, as some gossipers say."

Meanwhile, Cho's daughter, Cho Min, announced on the 7th, "I intend to withdraw the lawsuits regarding the cancellation of admissions at Korea University and Pusan National University currently underway." Cho's son, Cho Won, who is suspected of using a false internship certificate for admission to Yonsei University graduate school, recently voluntarily returned his master's degree.
