Chungnam Province to Develop a 'Mini New Town' in the Station Area of Naepo New City

Chungnam Province is creating a 'mini new town' near Naepo Station on the Seohae Line double-track railway.

Chungnam Province plans to invest 437.2 billion KRW by 2030 to develop a 'mini new town' in the Sapgyo-ri area of Sapgyo-eup, Yesan-gun.

According to Chungnam Province on the 12th, the mini new town will be developed on a 905,475㎡ site. The project site will include five apartment complexes (with approximately 4,522 households), two detached housing sites (with approximately 124 households), and one elementary and one middle school each. The planned population is set at 11,982 people.

Chungnam Province plans to proactively undertake urban development in response to the expansion of Naepo New Town following the opening of the Seohae Line, the establishment of Naepo Station, and the attraction of public institutions to Chungnam Innovation City.

The installation of Naepo Station is scheduled to proceed with a design competition and completion of basic and detailed designs within this year, followed by two years of construction, aiming to open in 2025.

Once Naepo Station is completed, stations will be constructed in all cities and counties of Chungnam along the Seohae Line, enhancing mobility convenience for residents and expected to stimulate the local economy, Chungnam Province anticipates.

Additionally, Chungnam Province explains that improvements in accessibility to the metropolitan area, enhancement of living conditions in Chungnam Innovation City, and activation of public institution and corporate attraction are also expected benefits.

The mini new town development is an urban development project aimed at proactively responding to these changing conditions. Chungnam Province has also signed a business agreement with Yesan-gun and Chungnam Development Corporation to smoothly carry out the urban development project.

According to the agreement, Chungnam Province will support the designation of the urban development zone for the mini new town, establishment of development plans, and approval of implementation plans. Yesan-gun will handle various permits related to the urban development project and the attraction of public institutions, while Chungnam Development Corporation will cooperate in project implementation including planning, compensation, construction, execution, completion, and sales.

Kim Tae-heum, Governor of Chungnam Province, said, “The mini new town will serve as a gateway connecting Chungnam Innovation City and the metropolitan area, establishing a new growth base for Chungnam. Chungnam Province will ensure the early construction of infrastructure for Naepo Station so that residents can use it without inconvenience and will make every effort to ensure the urban development project proceeds on schedule.”

Meanwhile, the Seohae Line double-track railway is scheduled to open next year. The Seohae Line is a 90.01 km railway connecting Hongseong, Chungnam to Songsan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, with a total budget of 4.1487 trillion KRW invested in the Seohae Line opening project.

Currently, final works such as core track construction, power, signaling, and communication are underway. The progress rate stands at 93.2%.
