The Education Research and Information Center under the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 12th that it will operate college admission briefings and 1:1 special counseling centers for students and parents to effectively prepare for the 2024 college admission early decision process.
This year's early decision process has attracted increased attention from examinees and parents due to changes such as the abolition of self-introduction letters and partial non-reflection of extracurricular activities.
On the 27th, parents were waiting for their children who took the 2023 early admission essay exam at Ewha Womans University in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. This year, 11,393 applicants applied for this admission at Ewha Womans University, and 310 were selected. The competition rate rose to 36.75:1 from last year's 32.14:1. The college admission briefing for students and parents preparing for the 2024 early decision will be held on the 15th from 2 PM at the Obama Hall of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, with on-site registration available and limited to the first 1,200 participants.
At the briefing, three lectures will be provided containing the latest essential information that students and parents preparing for early decision need to know, including △ Analysis of the 2023 early decision results and tailored strategies for 2024 admissions △ Understanding and preparation for the comprehensive student record screening △ Understanding and preparation for the curriculum and essay screening.
Additionally, eight types of college admission videos for teachers have been newly developed and will be released on the YouTube channel ‘Seoul Education Teacher TV’ on the 21st. These videos cover guidance strategies not only for medical and pharmaceutical fields but also for specialized high school admissions, opportunity balance admissions, and strategies for students in the lower-middle tier.
Following the briefing, from the 26th to the 29th, a ‘2024 College Admission Early Decision 1:1 Special Counseling Center’ will be operated for 1,980 examinees in the Seoul area over four days.
At the special counseling centers set up at Kwangwoon University, Konkuk University, and Myongji University, counseling teachers and examinees will meet one-on-one to receive personalized career and admission counseling considering the students’ desired universities and departments. Furthermore, counseling related to music, art, physical education, medical and pharmaceutical fields, and specialized high schools will also be provided to meet diverse student needs.
From August 1st for two days, a 1:1 customized counseling center will also be operated for students in the Seoul area who qualify for opportunity balance admissions (including basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, multicultural families, single-parent families, and special education recipients).
All early decision counseling reservations will be accepted from 10 AM on the 16th until 9 PM on the 18th through the counseling reservation site (http://sangdam.jinhak.or.kr), and reservations will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.
