Asiana Airlines Collaborates with Climate Change Center for "Voluntary Carbon Offsetting"

On the 12th, Asiana Airlines announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Climate Change Center Foundation at its headquarters in Jongno-gu to collaborate on carbon offset activities. The signing ceremony was attended by Park Su-sang, Head of Communications at Asiana Airlines, and Kim So-hee, Secretary General of the Climate Change Center, who agreed to promote the introduction of the voluntary carbon offset program.

The 'Voluntary Carbon Offset Program' is designed to enable customers and companies to directly contribute to reducing the carbon dioxide impact generated by air travel. Through this agreement, Asiana Airlines becomes the first domestic airline to allow customers and companies to voluntarily purchase carbon credits via a voluntary carbon market platform to offset their emissions.

Starting at the end of this year, Asiana Airlines will provide a link to the voluntary carbon market platform 'AORA' on the ESG management page and event banners on its official website. Passengers can participate in the voluntary carbon offset program by entering the departure and arrival airports of their flight and paying for the calculated carbon emissions with carbon credits.

Carbon credits purchased through AORA will be used for climate response and carbon reduction projects in developing countries, such as ▲bio stove distribution ▲renewable energy production ▲tropical forest conservation projects. Individuals can also receive a carbon offset certificate that specifies the name of the carbon offset project and the amount of carbon reduction achieved through the carbon credits they purchased.

Park Su-sang, Head of Communications at Asiana Airlines, stated, “This carbon offset collaboration is meaningful as it not only joins the global aviation industry's efforts to reduce carbon emissions but also allows customers to participate in carbon offsetting together.”
