Seoul Donhwamun Gugakdang presents a performance highlighting the life and music of daegeum master Juknong (竹濃) Kim Gyesun.

Daegeum player Jeong Sohee will take the stage at Donhwamun Gugakdang on August 6 with "Daegeum Player Series II: Juknong Kim Gyesun."
Kim Gyesun began playing the daegeum as an apprentice musician and actively performed while working as a musician in the Royal Music Office (Iwangjik Aakbu). She released various albums through Columbia, Victor, Okeh, and Polydor.
In the performance, Jeong Sohee will play masterful daegeum pieces such as "Cheongseonggok (淸聲曲)" and "Sangryeongsan (上靈山)" featured on the albums, while delivering lectures sharing diverse stories about Kim Gyesun. Kim Nari (Jeongga), Lee Eonhwa (Yanggeum), and Lee Minjin (Minyo) will join the stage.
Jeong Sohee is a professor in the Department of Korean Traditional Music at Yongin University and has been actively engaged in 25 solo recitals and collaborations. She has released "Jeong Sohee Daegeum Sanjo - Seoyongseok-ryu (流)" and "Creative Daegeum Works Collection - Pathos," and published "Daegeum Creative Works Collection Evolution" and "Daegeum Practice Pieces for Improving Sight-Reading Ability."
Jeong Sohee stated, "We will present a variety of music and stories including the musical institutions of the era Kim Gyesun lived in, the daegeum masters, and various interpretations of Jeongak (正樂) pieces."
Seoul Donhwamun Gugakdang's "Co-Planning Project," launched in 2021, provides free theater rental fees and offers promotional marketing and staffing support services to ensure stable performance opportunities for artists. In addition to "Daegeum Player Series II," a variety of co-planning project performances are scheduled through December.
