Over 100 Million Users Within Five Days of Launch
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has launched a new social networking service (SNS) called "Threads" to compete with Twitter, and the number of subscribers surpassed 100 million just five days after the service was launched.
On the 10th (local time), U.S. IT media TechCrunch reported that the text-based application Threads exceeded 100 million subscribers.
This is just five days since Threads was launched on the 5th. Threads surpassed 30 million subscribers within 16 hours of launch and exceeded 70 million subscribers within a day and a half.
The speed at which Threads reached 100 million subscribers is much faster than ChatGPT, which recently sparked a global generative AI boom (2 months). TikTok took 9 months, and Instagram took two and a half years to reach 100 million subscribers.
TechCrunch stated, "Threads achieved 100 million subscribers in a short time despite lacking a post search function and popular Twitter features such as hashtags and direct messaging (DM)."
Threads is a text-based platform launched targeting Twitter. Each post is limited to 500 characters, and users can upload videos up to 5 minutes long. It is convenient for Instagram users because they can log in immediately with just an Instagram account.
