Establishment of Regional Energy Plan by Year-End
To Be Used as a Basic Energy Policy Guide for the Next 5 Years
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) recently announced that it has been selected for the ‘2023 Local Government Regional Energy Plan Establishment Support Project’ conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing 25 million KRW in national funding.
According to the city on the 10th, this project involves the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy providing research service expenses for establishing regional energy plans to strengthen local governments' energy policy planning capabilities.
Accordingly, the city plans to proceed with an agreement with the Ministry and the Korea Energy Agency and conduct the research service by the end of the year.
Once the regional energy plan is finalized, it will be used as a basic energy policy manual for the next five years.
The first-ever regional energy plan will include ▲ the current status and future trends of regional energy ▲ energy supply measures ▲ energy saving and energy utilization efficiency plans ▲ expansion of renewable energy facility deployment and measures to improve energy self-sufficiency rates.
Additionally, it will prepare plans for a city-wide movement to increase citizen participation and carbon neutrality practice measures that enable coexistence between citizens and industries such as the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, establishing mid- to long-term action plans to enhance the efficiency of energy policies.
Kim Young-hyun, Director of the Energy Policy Division, said, “We are pleased to be able to promote Yeosu City’s energy policy more systematically through this project selection,” adding, “We will do our best to gather diverse opinions from all walks of life during the research process to establish an energy plan that citizens can relate to.”
