The winning entry is a consortium of Haean Comprehensive Architectural Office (Kim Taeman) and Design Camp Moon Park DMP Comprehensive Architectural Office (Oh Hogeun).
The design was highly evaluated for systematically and clearly separating the flow lines by considering the independent functions of the National Medical Center, Central Infectious Disease Hospital, and Central Trauma Center, and for its ability to be efficiently adapted during national crises, allowing flexible responses according to situations. The selected company plans to sign a design contract with the National Medical Center within this month and proceed with basic and detailed design for 32 months.
This competition aimed to complete a new hospital by 2028 on a site of 42,276㎡ in Bangsan-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, with a total floor area of 184,810㎡. A total of seven companies, including leading architectural firms specializing in medical institution design in Korea, competed fiercely. The National Medical Center ensured fairness by live streaming the entire judging and announcement process on YouTube.
The Medical Center stated, "Through the new construction and relocation of the National Medical Center and the Central Infectious Disease Hospital construction project, we expect to strengthen essential and public healthcare systems, carry out convergent comprehensive medical and research policies, and enhance proactive infectious disease response capabilities."
