Gangbuk-gu Holds Meeting to Encourage Medalists of the National Youth Sports Festival
‘Fencing Gold Medalist’ Kim Hyo-min (Changmun Girls' Middle School, 3rd Grade) and 9 Medalists
District Mayor Lee Soon-hee: “We Will Support Their Growth into World-Class Athletes”
Seoul's Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) encouraged elementary and middle school athletes who achieved outstanding results at this year's National Youth Sports Festival.
On the 27th of last month, the district held a meeting in the multipurpose conference room of the district office, inviting 9 medal-winning athletes, 4 supervising teachers, 5 former coaches, and the superintendent of the Seongbuk-Gangbuk Office of Education.
The National Youth Sports Festival, hosted by the Korean Sports Council and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Education, was held from May 27 to 30 in Ulsan City. On the day of the event, over 12,000 elementary and middle school athletes from across the country competed fiercely for medals in 36 sports categories.
Gangbuk-gu student athletes performed remarkably. The list of awardees includes ▲Fencing Gold Medalist Kim Hyo-min (Changmun Girls' Middle School, 3rd Grade) ▲Fencing Bronze Medalist Lee Ji-o (Changmun Girls' Middle School, 3rd Grade) ▲Fencing Bronze Medalist Jeong Won-shin (Changmun Girls' Middle School, 3rd Grade) ▲Fencing Bronze Medalist Hong Ga-on (Changmun Girls' Middle School, 3rd Grade) ▲Taekwondo Silver Medalist Oh Seung-min (Gangbuk Middle School, 3rd Grade) ▲Taekwondo Silver Medalist Park Seo-ha (Susong Elementary School, 6th Grade) ▲Taekwondo Bronze Medalist Gil Woo-jin (Susong Elementary School, 6th Grade) ▲Judo Bronze Medalist Kang Min-ha (Songjung Elementary School, 5th Grade) ▲Judo Bronze Medalist Baek So-yoon (Songjung Elementary School, 5th Grade).
Seongbuk-Gangbuk Office of Education Superintendent Kang Yeon-sil said, “It is very rare for a Seoul local government to have 9 medal-winning athletes,” adding, “The community’s interest and support, such as scholarship funding for promising young athletes, have borne fruit.”
At the meeting, Mayor Lee engaged in conversations with each athlete and listened attentively to the coaches’ concerns, commending their hard work.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee stated, “I thank the Office of Education for their dedication to nurturing future sports talents and the residents who provided scholarships,” and added, “We will prepare various support measures to help Gangbuk-gu student athletes grow into world-class athletes.”
