Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, visited Mangusan Detention Basin and Myeonmok Rainwater Pump Station on the morning of the 7th to conduct a comprehensive inspection of flood control facilities in preparation for the rainy season.
The Mangusan Detention Basin is a facility designed to prevent flooding in the downstream area of Mangusan, which is vulnerable to flood damage during heavy rain. It stores rainwater flowing along the valley during heavy rain to reduce the burden on major downstream sewer pipes. The Myeonmok Rainwater Pump Station operates 11 motor pumps to discharge rainwater into rivers or streams during the monsoon season and heavy rain.
Mayor Ryu carefully checked the normal operation and management status of these facilities and urged thorough facility management.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “Safety can never be overemphasized. Protecting and safeguarding our residents is always the top priority,” adding, “We will conduct meticulous pre-inspections and thorough management to ensure that residents do not suffer damage from summer heavy rains or heatwaves.”
The district has been operating a comprehensive flood and wind disaster countermeasure plan since May to minimize damage caused by summer wind and flood disasters. The Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has been formed and is in operation, focusing on inspecting and maintaining flood-prone areas, dredging and cleaning rivers, sewers, and rainwater inlets, and strengthening preparedness for wind and flood disasters.
Additionally, to prevent flood damage, a full survey of aging sewer pipes and sewer pipe maintenance projects are underway, and installation of water barriers is also in progress for semi-basement houses and commercial buildings.
