4-Year-Old Apartment in Gangdong-gu, Rebar Bundles Soaring Through Exterior Walls

There was an incident where cracks appeared on the exterior wall of an apartment located in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, and rebar protruded.

On the 7th, the real estate transaction app Hogangnono posted a photo with the description "a photo taken directly by a resident." This image was originally uploaded on the 2nd to the exclusive community for residents of the apartment, a bulletin board for sharing apartment-related information.

The photo shows cracks on the corner of the apartment's exterior wall, with several thin rebars protruding through the cracks.

Later, a netizen shared a screenshot of the photo being shared in a residents' group chat. In the chat, one resident said, "The construction company will inspect it," while another mentioned, "A crane will come tomorrow to carry out work, and the technical research institute will determine whether the protruding rebar is main rebar or not, then decide on the method of work and proceed accordingly."

Experts commented, "This is not a common defect, but it is something that should be assessed through safety inspections."

The construction company stated, "An external structural safety diagnosis company conducted an investigation including rebar detection and confirmed that the main rebar was properly installed," adding, "However, the exposed rebar is unrelated to the main rebar and appears to be leftover rebar, which is being removed and repaired."

The apartment was completed in December 2019.
