Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok), together with the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation, has named the area around Baekjegobun-ro 39-gil in Seokchon-dong as ‘Hosudan-gil’ and is launching efforts to revitalize the alley commercial district.

The ‘Hosudan-gil’ area in Seokchon-dong is home to many long-established businesses over 20 years old and beloved local restaurants. Notably, this area is adjacent to tourist attractions such as Seokchon Lake and Lotte World, making it a region expected to attract a high influx of visitors. Combined with the Seokchon-dong ancient tomb cluster, it boasts a rare scenic view in Seoul.

Accordingly, Songpa-gu and the Songpa branch of the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation have joined forces to create an alley commercial district comparable to Songpa-dong’s ‘Songridan-gil’.

The district plans to reflect the unique characteristics of Seokchon-dong’s ‘Hosudan-gil’ alley by supporting promotion and marketing, including assistance in planning and operating events or festivals, and focusing on branding such as discovering commercial district stories and producing content.

First, until October, one-on-one consulting with experts will be conducted to improve management and strengthen competitiveness of individual businesses within the commercial district. Consultations will cover new menu planning, inventory and staff management know-how, online marketing, and promotional strategies. If necessary, up to 1 million KRW in actual expenses will also be supported.

Additionally, efficient and direct financial support will be implemented. On-site visits and consultations will be conducted for individual businesses within the alley commercial district, alongside credit guarantee loans.

From an infrastructure and marketing perspective, projects such as ▲‘University Student-Small Business Owner Matching Sales Increase Project’ and ▲‘Installation of Guide Panels’ will also be promoted. The ‘University Student-Small Business Owner Matching Sales Increase Project’ helps merchants develop new marketing strategies by utilizing ideas from MZ generation university students. A total of 10 teams will be formed and matched one-on-one with merchants to seek the revival of the alley economy. The ‘Guide Panels’ will be installed along the Seokchon Lake walking path to serve as guides directing tourists to the ‘Hosudan-gil’ commercial district.

Songpa-gu and the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation Songpa branch have carried out alley commercial district revitalization projects targeting Munjeong Rodeo Street in 2020, Pungnap Market in 2021, and Machun Station commercial district in 2022. Based on experience in public-private cooperation such as communicating with local merchants and sharing design portfolios of local students, they plan to enhance the effectiveness of the project.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Songpa-gu has many hidden gems in terms of sightseeing and food destinations. We hope that Seokchon-dong’s ‘Hosudan-gil’ will emerge as a hot place rivaling Songpa-dong’s ‘Songridan-gil.’” He added, “Songpa-gu will continuously pay attention and actively support to attract external tourists’ interest and revitalize the alley commercial district.”
