Go Gwang-hyo, the newly appointed Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service, is regarded as a tax policy expert who has worked at the Tax Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Tax Service.
Commissioner Go, originally from Jangseong, Jeollanam-do, graduated from Gwangju Daedong High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Economics, and began his public service career in 1992 by passing the 36th Administrative Examination.
After starting his career at the National Tax Service, he served in various positions at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the predecessor of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, including Director of the Tax Analysis Division, Director of the International Tax Cooperation Division, Director of the Property Tax Division, Director of the Corporate Tax Division, and Director of the Tax Policy Division.
He is recognized as a figure who has experienced policy (Ministry of Economy and Finance), adjudication (Tax Tribunal), and enforcement (National Tax Service) through his role as a standing adjudicator at the Tax Tribunal under the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
As the first Director of the Tax Policy Bureau under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, he led the 2022 tax reform. Additionally, he served as a director of the OECD Fiscal Affairs Committee for three years, where he spearheaded the introduction of the digital tax and represented Korea's voice.
