Autonomous Patrol Robot Operation Demonstration Regulatory Sandbox
Patrol Robot Safety and Effectiveness Verification Plan
SK Shieldus (CEO Park Jin-hyo) announced on the 6th that it has received regulatory sandbox approval from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the 'Autonomous Patrol Robot Operation Demonstration' and will proceed with the demonstration project. The regulatory sandbox is a system that grants special exemptions or deferrals from current regulations for a certain period to allow market launch and testing/verification of new services using new technologies for innovative growth in new industries.
SK Shielders' 'AI Patrol Robot' is conducting a pilot test on the campus of Duksung Women's University.
SK Shieldus is promoting the autonomous patrol robot business in collaboration with SK Telecom and Newbility. Earlier, the three companies confirmed the necessary functions and feasibility through a pilot operation of patrol robots at Duksung Women's University campus located in Dobong-gu, Seoul, in March. Following the pilot test, by embarking on the operation demonstration project, SK Shieldus will be able to verify the safety and effectiveness of autonomous patrol robots more thoroughly. A total of 20 patrol robots will be operated in five demonstration areas including Gangwon National University Samcheok Campus, Incheon Grand Park, and resorts within Gangwon Province. The demonstration period is two years starting from August this year.
In particular, this project applies SK Shieldus's 'Vision AI' technology, which recognizes people and judges unusual behavior and abnormal signs in autonomous patrol robots. It is expected to quickly identify dangerous situations and assist in response. Cho Hyeong-jun, Chief Technology Officer of SK Shieldus, said, "Autonomous patrol robots can improve the efficiency of security tasks by resolving CCTV blind spots, preventing safety accidents, and reducing patrol officers' fatigue," adding, "After successfully completing the autonomous patrol robot demonstration project, we will proceed with full-scale service commercialization."
