Gwangju Dong-gu Holds Briefing Session for Festival Tourism Joint Marketing Partner Organizations

On the 5th, Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced that it held a 'Festival Tourism Joint Marketing Cooperation Agency Briefing Session' to use the '20th Gwangju Nostalgic Chungjang Festival' and the '2nd Gwangju Busking World Cup' as a catalyst for local tourism.

The briefing session led to passionate discussions on various topics to ensure the successful hosting of the Chungjang Festival and Busking World Cup this October, including ▲plans to raise nationwide interest and awareness ▲discovering additional killer content and upgrading core content for the globalization of the Chungjang Festival ▲developing stay-type festival tourism programs through the commercialization of Chungjang Festival tourism products.

In particular, the event was significant as it was prepared through cooperation among tourism-related organizations and groups, including Dong-gu and four other autonomous districts of Gwangju, Gwangju Tourism Foundation, Korea Tourism Organization Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, Gwangju Tourism Association, Gwangju Cultural Foundation, National Asia Culture Center, Gwangju Design Promotion Agency (Gwangju Design Biennale), Korail Gwangju Songjeong Station Travel Center, and Nam-gu Penguin Village Base Art Travel Center.

This reflects an evaluation that the Chungjang Festival and Busking World Cup were not limited to mere local government-led events but that institutions and organizations encompassing the entire Gwangju area beyond administrative and geographical boundaries joined forces to focus on establishing the Chungjang Festival as a 'regional representative cultural brand' and a 'sustainable cultural content.'

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “This year’s Chungjang Festival and Busking World Cup are entering a period of recognition as prestigious festivals with a change in status unlike any other year,” adding, “We will closely cooperate with related festival organizations beyond Dong-gu to lay the foundation for a leap forward as a ‘stay-type cultural tourism city.’”
