SK Innovation announced that it is participating as an official sponsor in the ‘2023 Gangneung World Choir Competition,’ held in Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do until the 13th of this month, joining in spreading messages of courage and hope to people worldwide who have faced difficulties due to COVID-19.

Recalling the memory of successfully securing the event after fierce competition with 36 countries that hoped to host the World Choir Competition in 2020, SK Innovation plans to also conduct on-site promotional activities wishing for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan Expo.

The World Choir Competition is an event organized by the Interkultur Foundation of Germany and is holding its 12th edition this year since the 2000 Linz competition in Austria. This year’s event brings together 323 teams from 34 countries, approximately 8,000 musicians, under the theme of ‘Peace and Prosperity for All,’ creating a platform for communication.

SK Innovation supports special performances on the 6th and 12th, when the award ceremonies are held. Einsbaum Wind Chamber and Dream With Ensemble, the grand prize winners of the ‘National Music Festival for People with Developmental Disabilities (GMF),’ will perform orchestra and clarinet ensemble concerts respectively, adding true meaning to harmony. Since 2017, SK Innovation has sponsored the National Music Festival for People with Developmental Disabilities to help individuals with developmental disabilities communicate with society through music.

Additionally, a booth wishing for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan Expo will be installed at the main venue, Gangneung Arena, to promote the Busan Expo to visitors from around the world. The booth consists of a photo zone featuring SK Innovation’s character ‘Haengko (Happy Elephant)’ and Busan Metropolitan City’s representative character ‘Boogi (Busan Seagull),’ supporting the Expo bid, as well as an event experience zone. Visitors who post messages supporting the Busan Expo bid on social media will receive gifts such as T-shirts made from recycled plastic and notebook stands made from recycled paper.

An SK Innovation official stated, "We will do our best to ensure the successful completion of the ‘2023 Gangneung World Choir Competition,’ where people from all over the world gather to sing for ‘Peace and Prosperity for All,’ and to successfully secure the hosting of the Busan Expo."
