The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 4th that Daegu Electronics Technical High School was selected as a Meister High School in the semiconductor field through the Ministry of Education's new Meister High School designation competition.
The Ministry of Education promoted a new Meister High School designation competition to cultivate talent centered on national strategic industries in accordance with the current government's 'Semiconductor Talent Development Plan' (July 2022) and 'Comprehensive Digital Talent Development Plan' (August 2022). As a result of applications from seven schools nationwide (six in the semiconductor field and one in the digital field), three schools were selected: Daegu Electronics Technical High School and Yesan Electronics Technical High School in Chungnam for the semiconductor field, and Gyeongbuk Software High School for the digital field.
In January, following the Ministry of Education's new Meister High School designation policy, Daegu Electronics Technical High School established an industry-academia-government promotion council with Daegu City, Dalseo District, DGIST, Kyungpook National University, Yeungnam College of Science & Technology, Abaco, and SNS Tech to accelerate preparations for the new Meister High School designation.
Daegu Electronics Technical High School secured investment and development plans of 1 billion KRW and 300 million KRW from Daegu City and Dalseo District, respectively. It also signed a business agreement to operate joint educational programs utilizing semiconductor infrastructure with institutions such as DGIST, which plans to establish the Semiconductor Sensorium Research Institute R&D fab; Kyungpook National University Semiconductor Convergence Technology Institute, selected as a semiconductor specialized university; and Yeungnam College of Science & Technology, which systematically operates employment-linked curricula.
Additionally, through agreements with 41 companies including Abaco, securing over 140 employment opportunities, the school made various efforts that culminated in the honor of being selected as a Meister High School in the semiconductor field.
Following the new Meister High School designation, Daegu Electronics Technical High School will receive a total of 27.9 billion KRW in support: 5 billion KRW from the Ministry of Education, 21.6 billion KRW from the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, and 1.3 billion KRW from local governments (1 billion KRW from Daegu City and 300 million KRW from Dalseo District). These funds will be used to build dormitories, establish practice rooms, purchase equipment, and operate programs necessary for running the Meister High School.
Furthermore, starting from the 2025 academic year, Daegu Electronics Technical High School will select 96 new students across six classes, including three classes for the Semiconductor Manufacturing Department and three classes for the Semiconductor Equipment Department, officially commencing Meister High School operations.
Kang Eun-hee, Superintendent of Daegu Education, said, “I sincerely congratulate Daegu Electronics Technical High School on its new start as a Meister High School in the semiconductor field, and we will do our best to nurture global talents essential to the semiconductor sector, which is called the rice of future industries.”
